I Love Retirement
FIVE FINGER PRAYER (From the bulletin of St. Mary's Church, Ladysmith, BC)
THIS IS BEAUTIFUL - AND IT IS SURELY WORTH MAKING THE 5 FINGER PRAYER A PART OF OUR LIVES.
1. YOUR THUMB IS NEAREST YOU. SO BEGIN YOUR PRAYERS BY PRAYING FOR THOSE CLOSEST TO YOU. THEY ARE THE EASIEST TO REMEMBER. TO PRAY FOR OUR LOVED ONES IS, AS C. S. LEWIS ONCE SAID, A 'SWEET DUTY.'
2. THE NEXT FINGER IS THE POINTING FFNGER. PRAY FOR THOSE WHO TEACH, INSTRUCT AND HEAL. THIS INCLUDES TEACHERS, DOCTORS, AND MINISTERS. THEY NEED SUPPORT AND WISDOM IN POINTING OTHERS IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. KEEP THEM IN YOUR PRAYERS.
3. THE NEXT FINGER IS THE TALLEST FINGER. IT REMINDS US OF OUR LEADERS. PRAY FOR THE PRIME MINISTER, LEADERS IN BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY, AND ADMINISTRATORS. THESE PEOPLE SHAPE OUR NATION AND GUIDE PUBLIC OPINION. THEY NEED GOD'S GUIDANCE.
4. THE FOURTH FINGER IS OUR RING FINGER. SURPRISING TO MANY IS THE FACT THAT THIS IS OUR WEAKEST FINGER, AS ANY PIANO TEACHER WILL TESTIFY. IT SHOULD REMIND US TO PRAY FOR THOSE WHO ARE WEAK, IN TROUBLE OR IN PAIN. THEY NEED YOUR PRAYERS DAY AND NIGHT. YOU CANNOT PRAY TOO MUCH FOR THEM.
5. AND LASTLY COMES OUR LITTLE FINGER - THE SMALLEST FINGER OF ALL WHICH IS WHERE WE SHOULD PLACE OURSELVES IN RELATION TO GOD AND OTHERS. AS THE BIBLE SAYS, 'THE LEAST SHALL BE THE GREATEST AMONG YOU. YOUR PINKIE SHOULD REMIND YOU TO PRAY FOR YOURSELF. BY THE TIME YOU HAVE PRAYED FOR THE OTHER FOUR GROUPS, YOUR OWN NEEDS WILL BE PUT INTO PROPER PERSPECTIVE AND YOU WILL BE ABLE TO PRAY FOR YOURSELF MORE EFFECTIVELY.
On October 2nd, Christ the King parishioners along with other Comox Valley Christians participated in the annual Life Chain on Cliffe Avenue in Courtenay to espouse our Pro-Life stance and hopefully influence some to honour the lives of the unborn in their decisions. 22 Brother Knights joined the 102 participants of this year's silent prayer vigil.
Congratulations and "Well Done!" to Bro. Mark Toth who completed the grueling 240 km Boomers Legacy bike ride from Comox to Victoria on 17-18 June 2011. Our Council contributed financial sponsor support to Bro. Mark for this very worthy cause. You can learn more about Boomers Legacy at http://www.boomerslegacy.ca/ . Below are photos of Mark and friend at the start and end of the ride, the latter with Chief of the Defence Staff, General Walt Natynczyk.
Congratulations to our Brothers who were exemplified to the Fourth Degree on March 26th in Nanaimo by the Master BC and Yukon, Sir Knight Tony Pimentel. These Brothers joined Msgr Albury Assembly #2006. From Dr. Briggs Council# 4597 were Stanley Horsman (left) and Ken Davis (centre). Matthew Morrison (right) is from Ascension Council #7991.
Pray for Priests -
In response to the World Day of Prayer
for the Sanctification of Priests called by the Congregation for
the Clergy on May 30, 2008, a group of parishioners of Christ
the King, Courtenay devised a method by which our priests will be
prayed for daily. You are urged to visit the website at http://www.prayforpriests.ca for
details of the method. Everyone is invited to sign up to pray
daily for those in our diocese in Holy Orders. The personal details
of the person praying are kept confidential. The individuals being
prayed for will be tallied in the website, This is a real and
effective way to show our appreciation of our priests."
Thank you.

The
Comox Military Family Resource Centre, which provides services
to the military community by offering deployment support services
to married members and their families, have extended their
mandate to include the next-of-kin of single military members
who are on operational deployment. In an attempt to reach as many
families as possible on North Vancouver Island who could benefit
from this service, an information package has been provided to
the Dr. Tillman Briggs Council 4597 for the benefit of our membership.
The introductory documents can be viewed here,
or you can peruse the entire information package by contacting
the Grand Knight.
If you have an item for sale
and want to give your brother knights an opportunity to purchase
it before you resort to open advertising, you can now post it
on our "For
Sale by Members" page. Send or email the item information
(preferably with a digital photo), along with your contact name,
email address and/or phone number to the webmaster, and it will
be included in the next update to that web page on this site.
For more information, contact the webmaster (email link is at bottom
of this page).
